Solicitation for Letters of Intent for Star Principal Herald from June 20 – July 20, 2024
Greetings from Annais Eleanor de Montgomerie, Star Principal Herald,
My time as Star Principal Herald is coming to a close. Therefore, I am officially soliciting Letters of Intent for my successor as Star Principal Herald.
Letters of Intent will be accepted through Saturday, July 20, 2024. Interviews will be scheduled with all applicants the week of July 21 – 27, 2024. The announcement of the incoming Star Principal Herald will be made the week of July 28 – August 3, 2024. The change of office will take place at Coronation in October.
Letters of Intent should be addressed to the Crown and Star Principal (sovereign@crown.ansteorra.org, consort@crown.ansteorra.org, kingdom@herald.ansteorra.org).
Letters of Intent should include the following:
- SCA Name
- Mundane Name
- Contact Information
- Copy of Membership Card – including the membership number and signature
- Previous heraldic experience
- Previous administrative experience
- Previous SCA offices held
- Any other experience that outlines the ability to perform the duties of Star Principal
- Statement regarding projects and/or direction for the College of Heralds during the
warranted term
Requirements for this office include:
- Membership in good standing in the SCA, preferably through the end of the warranted
term, that includes immediate access to the Black Star. - Telephone number in working status throughout the end of the warranted term.
- Immediate access to the internet and officer email and other official means of communication.
- Any other requirements as detailed in the governing documents of the SCA, the
Administrative Handbook for the College of Arms, Ansteorran Kingdom Law (especially
Article II, Section 3, subsections 1, 2 and 6), and the Administrative Handbook for the
College of Heralds of Ansteorra, and the Administrative Handbook for the College of
Scribes of Ansteorra.
Core skills for success in this office include the following:
- Proven success as an officer in Ansteorra, preferably in the College of Heralds.
- Knowledge of the inner workings of the College of Heralds, including but not limited to,
submissions, sumptuary law, award texts and constitutions. - Supervisory and Management skills
- Team building skills
- Project Management skills
- Conflict resolution skills
- Customer Service skills
- Administrative skills
- Consultation, Advisory, and Mentoring skills
- Ability to meet reporting deadlines
Additional things that would enhance success include:
- Advertising and Marketing skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and use discretion in the performance of duties
- Strong written and verbal skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability and willingness to respond to inquiries and other communication in a timely manner
- Ability to provide 5-20 hours per week to perform the duties of the office – time fluctuates depending on the needs of the College, Kingdom, and Society
- Ability and willingness to travel to kingdom events, such as Crown Tournament, Coronation, Known World Heraldic and Scribal Symposium, Ansteorran Heraldic and Scribal Symposium, and Heraldic Retreats
- Ability and willingness to takeand fulfill the duties of the Oath of Service as required by Kingdom Law
Please note that the above list of successes is not complete, nor is it solely the duty of the future Star Principal. If so desired, these can be requested of other members of the College of Heralds, either singularly or as a team. However, the responsibility of success in the execution of office and of the Ansteorran College of Heralds falls upon the Star Principal Herald.
