Horses were an important part of medieval culture and were involved in everything from warfare, to tourneys, to simple day to day chores. Their role in medieval history is recreated in the SCA through various activities such as jousting, games of skill, obstacle courses, and horseback archery. Horses also add to the pageantry of the SCA by participating in royal processions! They are often decked out in barding to match their rider.
Even without a horse, there are still ways for people to participate in equestrian activities. Ground crews are always needed to help reset activities and help the riders. Youth participation is welcome in some equestrian activities as well. Spectators are welcome and encouraged as participants put on brilliant displays of medieval skill!
