1972 – Today
Founded in 1972, the Barony of the Stargate is the oldest Society for Creative Anachronism group in Texas. The Society for Creative Anachronism is a non-profit educational organization dedicated to recreating world history before 1600 with battles, feasts, balls, tournaments, arts, and sciences all year-round. We also teach classes in period arts and sciences and do demonstrations for schools and other educational organizations throughout the area. Stargate has been an active part of this for over 50 years.
Stargate is part of an SCA regional group called the Kingdom of Ansteorra (Anglo-Saxon for Lone Star), which is made up of the State of Oklahoma and the Central Time Zone areas of the State of Texas.
The Houston Metro area also includes two additional groups, the Barony of Ravensfort (Woodlands, Conroe, Huntsville) and the Barony of Loch Soilleir (Clear Lake, Galveston, and Brazoria County). Feel free to pick the group closest to your home, work, or friends. You do not have to live in one of these groups to participate there.
