Share the Dream
In the current Middle Ages
With the Society for Creative Anachronism

We are a historical re-creation group that studies the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Recapturing the spirit of a bygone age, we study the grand arts, cuisine, fashion, weaponry, combat, science, and dance of these times.

  • Newcomer academy: check the calendar for dates. You do not need to attend a newcomer academy to participate in any of our activities, they’re just a helpful tool to get you started. If you do not see a newcomer academy scheduled, feel free to come to any of our guilds or a populace meeting instead.
  • Monthly Populace Meeting: On the first Tuesday of every month, 7 pm at various locations (on-campus, except during the summer). Check the calendar for location and time.
  • Guild Meetings: Throughout the week. Feel free to show up to any you are interested in. Email our officers for more info, or see the calendar.

Not to worry! Most of our activities do not require any fancy clothing or equipment. We have loaner gear for most of our guilds and activities that you can use. Just check the page for whatever activity you’d like to attend and show up as you are. We’ll take it from there.

There are some times when you will need garb, like going to an event or helping with a demo. If you need garb, feast gear, tents, or any other supplies, reach out to the hospitaler at hospitaler@shadowlands.ansteorra.org or on the Discord or Facebook groups and we’ll be happy to lend you some!

Members of the SCA get to make what we call a “persona”. You get to choose a time and place and create an identity for yourself. It can be as simple as just a first name, or you can create an entire backstory with your own coat of arms and personality. It’s completely up to you!

There are some rules, however, since we do try to stay as historically accurate as possible, and titles such as “knight”, “Lord”, or “Lady” are actual titles of recognition awarded to accomplished members of the SCA.

If you’re ready to make your own persona, contact our herald. They will help guide you through the process. If you aren’t ready, don’t worry! Making a persona is not required to participate in any of our activities.

Check out this link. On here you will find the SCA Newcomers’ Portal, advice on getting started, information on our Diversity and Inclusion office, advice for attending your first event, and a number of other useful resources.

The best way to get involved is to show up. Join us on the Discord and Facebook groups or come to one of our events on the calendar. We’ll help you with the rest.

Questions? Contact our hospitaler at hospitaler@shadowlands.ansteorra.org

The SCA reenacts history “as it should have been”. This means we strive to be as inclusive and accessible as possible, even if history was not so kind. We do not tolerate any sort of hate speech, bullying, harassment, or discrimination. If you believe you have experienced or witnessed any one of these, contact our seneschal.

If you require any accommodations in order to participate, please let us know and we will be happy to find a solution that works for you.
