Event Resources

Events refer to large-scale activities where multiple chapters of SCA gather to share in the festivities. Depending on the type of event, there can be classes, performances, competitions, tournaments and wars, feasts, court, and more. Events typically are several days long, with camping for those who want to go for multiple days. They are great ways to meet people from other groups and try new activities that our local group does not offer.

Attending an Event

Attending an event may seem daunting at first, but it’s actually very fun and easy! Here you will find a basic packing list for events, as well as information on how to borrow loaner gear and prepare for a successful event.

If you are a newcomer going to your first event, contact the hospitaler. They can lend you garb, feast gear, and other important packing list items if you do not have your own.

  • Check the event page for the class schedule and any costs, including entrance fees, class fees, and student or child discounts (if applicable).
  • If you are planning to eat there, check the event page for feast information, including dietary options if you have any dietary restrictions.
  • For overnight trips, check whether the location offers indoor restrooms, water and electricity, and where the camping area is located.
  • If you need loaner gear, contact the relevant officer to request some in advance.

Many events have a “court”, which is where high-ranking officers such as kings, queens, barons, and other such nobility offer announcements, recognition, and awards to the populace. Each has a distinct crown style and honorific, but if you do not know someone’s rank, it is perfectly fine to address them simply as as “milord” or “milady”.

In general, it is polite to bow for royalty and when passing their thrones, whether or not someone is in them. If you are called into court, stay facing the crown even as you return to your seat. If you are a newcomer, quite often a more experienced member will offer to assist you if you’d like, and even if you mess up, don’t worry! We were all newcomers once. Just enjoy yourself and have fun.

We do! Our activities are divided into two basic categories: events and guilds. This page is about events only. If you’re looking for our local classes and practices, you’re probably looking for our guilds. You can find those in the guilds tab in the top menu or by clicking the link here.
