Office Descriptions

Star Signet: The Star Signet oversees special deputies and regional officers to ensure the smooth operation of the College. They, or an assigned deputy, are further responsible for the production and distribution of award charters as required by the Crown of Ansteorra, including the creation of new designs. The Star Signet is also the individual who works to enlist available artisans to create achievement scrolls, if requested to do so by the award recipient, in conjunction with the Stellar Scroll. Education is another important role of the Star Signet, hand in hand with training.

Sable Scroll: The Sable Scroll’s primary role is the completion of award charters for granting by the Crown. In practical terms, they ensure that the appropriate type of award charter is calligraphed with the recipient’s name and all appropriate information, and is ready for the Crown’s presentation at the correct event.

Scribal Projects Deputy: The Scribal Projects Deputy is responsible for the collection of scrolls (originals and painted charters) and maintenance of all images and information in the charter library and original work gallery on the College of Scribes website.

Parchment & Scribal materials Deputy: This deputy to the Star Signet is responsible for advancing parchment making and usage through educational workshops throughout the kingdom and acquiring the materials to do the same. This deputy is also responsible for educating and procuring materials to educate scribal students in the manufacture of pigments, inks, tools, and other scribal related materials. ‘Parchment’ deputy will keep track of all greater Kingdom level awards (Patent and greater) and insure that at least some reign specific and grant level awards are made of parchment. Insular period book making projects or great projects of significant extant material need should coordinate with Star, Star Herald and Crown/Seneschal through this deputy’s office.

Insignia Deputy: The Insignia Deputy educates and encourages the populace in the design and development of quality and quantity insignia for the Crown of Ansteorra to present to worthy receipients receiving awards. Duties range from encouraging classes from the various art mediums used to create insignia (weaving, metalwork, etc), as well as educating the populace on the correct heraldic design used in the designated kingdom format (medallions, ribbons, etc.) for the Ansteorran standards. Completed insignia will continue to be given to Sable Scroll for inclusion with scroll awards.

Scroll Liaison Deputy: The Scroll Liaison Deputy coordinates the matching of individuals in need of Peerage or Nobility scrolls with Scribes. This particularly includes those who have not yet received their scroll after their elevation.
Note: This does NOT include reign-specific originals. That is handled by Star Signet and Sable Scroll.

Golden Scroll: The office of the Golden Scroll is responsible for filling requests for replacement charters. A charter is the preprinted, hand-painted document that is distributed with most Ansteorran awards, and which most people refer to as “scrolls.” Request a replacement scroll

Scribal Historian: The Scribal Historian works to preserve the history of the College within Ansteorra, thus enriching the artisans of today with a sense of what has come before.

Award Texts: Mistress Serena Lascelles, a specialist in legal documents and language, handles the creation of all and any text for new Award Charters.
