The Badge of the Order

The badge of the order, “a pelican in its piety proper”, is symbolic of this service as the pelican sheds its own blood to feed its young. The pelican can be shown without the nest and chicks, when displayed this way it is “a pelican vulning itself”.

Cap of maintenance

The cap or maintenance, also known as a “chapeau”. The cap may be gules trimmed ermine or gules trimmed argent goutty de sang (red blood drops). In Ansteorra, many members of the Order also wear a cloak or hood that incorporates the badge.

All members of this order may be referred to by any of the Peerage Order titles, and are commonly referred to as “Master” or “Mistress”.
