What is Oak Spring?
The Proposed Shire of Oak Spring, located in the modern city of Ada, OK, is a (currently) small group of people who enjoy exploring life from the Middle Ages as participants in the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA). We are populace members of the Barony of Namron (the modern city of Norman, OK) in the Kingdom of Ansteorra (made up of Oklahoma and most of Texas). Oak Spring is not yet an officially recognized SCA group.
If you would like to see what we do in person, that’s wonderful! We invite anyone and everyone who may be interested to come to an activity to learn more about what we do.
Oak Spring Meetings
Oak Spring tries to host several meetings each month, and all of our meetings are open to the public. Some are centered around a specific subject. Others are just about getting together to have some fun! Dates, times and locations are subject to change depending upon the weather and SCA sponsored events outside of the Ada, OK area. Notices regarding changes will be posted in advance, when possible, to our Facebook group page (link below). Period-style clothing is not required to attend meetings, but is encouraged.
Arts & Sciences Night
Arts & Sciences Night is simply a time for us to get together and work on individual period-themed projects while spending time with one another. This includes things like embroidery, leather working, sewing, armor making, weaving and everything in between. This is also a time for sharing information about your craft, or learning a new one. Working on a project is not required; we enjoy conversation as much as we do crafting.
Gather
A Gather is just what it sounds like. Society for Creative Anachronism participants from Ada and surrounding areas gather together to work on arts & crafts, share information, and generally enjoy one another’s company.
Business Meeting
Our monthly business meeting is held before our Arts and Sciences Night that is scheduled for the same time. We discuss the behind the scenes stuff that keeps Oak Spring running smoothly. Votes are taken and final decisions are made at the business meeting. As with all our meetings, the business meeting is open to the public.
Please address questions to Honorable Lord Ian the Green.
