Join Us in the Current Middle Ages!
The Society for Creative Anachronism is an international organization dedicated to researching and re-creating the arts and skills of pre-17th-century Europe. Our “Known World” consists of 20 kingdoms, with over 30,000 members residing in countries around the world.
Members, dressed in clothing of the Middle Ages and Renaissance, attend events which feature tournaments, royal courts, feasts, dancing, various classes & workshops, and more. We are a 501(c)(3) educational non-profit.
We are frequently requested for combat arts demonstrations. Our trained combatants can display their prowess in heavy combat, rapier, archery, and thrown weapons. With adequate space, equestrian or siege engine demonstrations may be available. We take safety seriously, both for our participants and our audiences.
Our Artisans are also highly in demand, and can both demonstrate and teach a multitude of skills. A partial sampling includes:
- Fiber Arts
- Costuming
- Blacksmithing
- Court Dancing
- Performing arts
- Culinary arts
- Medieval Games
- Animal Husbandry
- Metal or leather work
- Jewelry crafting
You can bring the Middle Ages to your event, fundraiser, summer reading program, arts festival, or nearly any other activity! We do not charge a fee for demos, however, your generous donation allows us to continue providing quality educational programming year-round. We also like snacks!
School Demos:
All demonstrations are tailored appropriately for classroom age range, facility limitations, and time restrictions.
For advanced students, lectures are an additional option. All of our studies are research-based, and many of our members have conducted extensive study in their disciplines and would be happy to provide their documentation for your students to evaluate. We work extensively from primary sources and extant examples to guide our reproductions.
The SCA is a volunteer organization, so please be aware that a presentation of your choice may not be available during school hours. However, we will strive to meet your classroom needs and provide fun, engaging demonstrations.
We look forward to contributing to your history, arts, sciences, or physical education curriculum! To request a demo, or other presentation, please contact the Hospitaler. An eight to twelve week notice is recommended.
