Silent Heraldry (Sign Language) Deputy: Open opportunity
About Heraldry
“Oyez! Oyez! Oyez! Pray heed the words of Their Royal Majesties!” If you have attended a court or meeting in the SCA, you have heard the clarion call of a Herald. Their duties extended beyond “being loud,” however. Our Heralds are knowledgeable in a wide variety of topics related to Medieval Heraldry.
“Voice Heralds”
Court Heralds serve in courts and meetings to call attention to the words of The Crown, Their Heirs, or the Landed Nobility. They also maintain our awards databases and read awards into official record during court. Site Heralds travel throughout event sites, sharing announcements of importance. Lyst Heralds call forth combatants to the field and provide critical announcements there. Silent Heralds provide ASL support during courts and meetings.
“Book Heralds”
Researching a name for your SCA persona, and associated display heraldry can be time-consuming. Our Heralds have access to an extensive network of primary sources and experts to ease the research and help provide the required supporting documentation. You may use a name and/or device without registering them, but registration reserves them for your use only.
Heraldry of Namron
A collection of registered heraldic devices in use by the Barony of Namron. Blazons, downloadable images, release forms, and terms of use are included.
Baronial Awards
SCA Titles and Alternatives
In the SCA, gentles are granted specific titles for use based on awards received and/or positions held. An ever-growing list of researched, period-accurate non-English and gender-neutral titles is available.
Scribal Arts
Scribal artists work closely with our Heralds. Members of the Firestorm Ink Guild create original award scroll designs, paint existing designs, and complete scroll calligraphy for awards issued at both the Baronial and Kingdom levels. The guild meets weekly; newcomers are encouraged to join and learn.
