The Barony of Namron has a large, active archery community, and we always welcome new participants. We shoot longbows, recurve bows, and crossbows of various classic designs – no compound bows, no pistol grip crossbows – and we use wooden arrows. Many people use modern bows; others shoot period-correct bows.
Most events have target archery competitions for both adults and children; many have open shooting times as well. Everyone is welcome to participate in the shoots regardless of skill level; we usually have a limited amount of loaner gear available. If you bring your own bow and arrows, they will need to be inspected before use. Arrows need to have target points, not field points.
Target archery practice is held most Sundays at our practice range on the property of Baron Andrew Turnbull and Baroness Kyna Terricsdottir at 4200 E. Franklin. Please check the schedule for current practice times. Practice is not held if there is a conflicting event, if the weather does not allow, or if no marshals are available to run it. Check the baronial Facebook page or email list for announcements each week.
Loaner gear is available at practice. You do not need to have any equipment to begin shooting with us, and there is no charge for the use of the equipment. We encourage new archers to practice for a while before buying a bow, since the weight of bow you use will change quickly at the beginning. Children over the age of 6 are welcome to shoot at both practices and (most) events, but must have a parent or guardian present and supervising.
Come on out and join us!
