It is not necessary for you to have your own horse to participate in SCA Equestrian activites.
Our horse people are a friendly bunch and will work to put you together with someone who will loan you a horse if you are a trained rider. If not, we will be glad to try and help you find someone to teach you. Also, we are always looking for people who are interested in helping out but not riding to assist with ground crew activities for our various competitions.
If you are interested in horses at any level, we have a place for you.
There is also very little specific equipment that an individual is required to own personally in order to participate. We do recommend that you obtain a personal riding helmet that fits you, but helmets are a personal responsibility and are mandatory only for jumping or for juvenile riders, or for some specific activities such as mounted combat.
