Do I need to be a paying member to participate?

No, the SCA welcomes all to join us.  If you have not signed a liability waver then there are some activities that you can not participate in, and some events may be more expensive to attend due to not having a membership discount. But the Ansteorra does not require a membership to fully participate in SCA activities inside our kingdom.

What is the SCA?

The Society for Creative Anachronism, or SCA, is an international organization dedicated to researching and re-creating the arts, skills, and traditions of pre-17th-century Europe.

Members of the SCA study and take part in a variety of activities, including combat, archery, equestrian activities, costuming, cooking, metalwork, woodworking, music, dance, calligraphy, fiber arts, and much more. If it was done in the Middle Ages or Renaissance, odds are you’ll find someone in the SCA interested in recreating it.

What is Ansteorra?

Ansteorra is a kingdom in the Society of Creative Anachronism (SCA). The Society for Creative Anachronism, or SCA, is an international organization dedicated to researching and re-creating the arts, skills, and traditions of pre-17th-century Europe.

The SCA breaks up the globe into regions called “Kingdoms” and Ansteorra is the kingdom covering most of Texas and Oklahoma.

What should I where to my first Rapier practice

Long pants (eg: leggings, sweat pants, yoga pants, jeans are acceptable if loose enough to do lunges and other footwork in);Thin Long Sleeve Shirt, non marking closed toe Shoes or Boots; Groin protection for males. Avoid jewelry as it could potentially get broken or entangled during practice. Bring leather gloves if you have them.
