C&T Straight Swiss 5 (with a twist at the end)
The tournament will consist of 5 main rounds followed by a set of final rounds.
Each Main Round will be fought best 2 out of 3. The final rounds will be fought as described below.
The Main Rounds
All entrants will compete in every main round. In the event that we do not have an even number of entrants a Bye will be identified. Bye’s are destructive.
- Sword and Dagger
- Single Sword
- Sword and Buckler (or equivalent)
- Case of Swords or long sword
- Bring your Best, weapons need not match
The Final Rounds
Entrants who choose not to advance will not be counted. An even number, not greater than 8, will advance. The fencers with the highest undisputed scores will automatically advance to the final rounds. If we have exactly 4 then only those 4 will advance. In the event that there are fewer than 4 undisputed high scores a polling will be conducted of all entrants to select the entrants that will move forward. The polling will be to select amongst the highest tied (disputed) entrants. Each entrant can only vote for one person and may not vote for themselves. Those who poll best will advance (the top 8). The final rounds are single elimination, once an entrant loses they are no longer competing.
Quarter Finals (8 finalists, 4 Pairs)
This round is fought only if we have 8 entrants move to the finals. It will be fought in 3 bouts. Fencers may bring any weapon they wish.
Semi-Finals (4 finalists, 2 Pairs)
6 Counted blows at the barrier. Each combatant will have only a side sword no longer than 38 inches .
- The winner is the combatant that lands 6 legal blows on their opponent.
- One hand must stay in contact with the barrier at all times. A hand leaving the barrier will count as a blow from their opponent.
- The arm and hand holding the barrier is not a legal target and no blows to that arm or hand should be counted as a blow.
- Combatants are not required to count blows made in quick succession to the same spot. These details should be agreed upon by both combatants.
- Combatants should discuss what blows they will accept and what blows they will not accept prior to lay on.
- Combatants must have a second (person of their choosing) to count their blows for them. Combatants will verbally acknowledge a blow and their second will announce the total number of blows.
- Marshals will not be responsible for counting blows. Combat continues until one combatant cedes defeat or a hand leaves the barrier.
Finals (1 Pair)
Double elimination bout each combatant brings the weapons they agree to. Weapons need not match. The winner of this round is the winner of the tournament.
