Good Morning and Happy SCA Birthday. 57 years ago, in a backyard in Berkeley, a few friends held the first Crown Tournament of the SCA. And now, many years and many miles away, we still enjoy getting together with our friends, fighting, eating, singing, and creating beautiful things. Thank you, each and every member of our wonderful Barony, for being a part of this wonderful game.
I have the pleasure of greeting you as the new Baronial Seneschal. Don Orazio has taken wonderful care of our Barony over the last 2 years of the pandemic, and now it’s time for him to take a well earned break. He will be staying on to help with the transfer, as well as continuing to be my ER Seneschal and will be very involved with our recruiting and demos.
For those who don’t know me, my name is Nicaize Maupetit, mundanely known as Christi Calkins. I have been playing SCA for 7 years; the entire time in the Barony of Bryn Gwlad. I spend much of my time in various service related capacities, though I also like creating art (weaving, painting, embroidery mostly) and fighting some rapier.
We have a lot of fun things on the near horizon for the barony. After an extremely successful 8 week demo at Sherwood Forest Faire, we have many new faces showing at up PiP (Populace in the Park) on Tuesday nights. We are busy planning for our Fall Event (bids are due tonight!), Bardshal will be holding a Revel on June 4th, and there are many nearby events hosted by nearby Baronies.
