Greetings Bryn Gwlad!
It has been a wild spring in the Halberd lands and we are looking forward to the lazy days of summer. From Candlemas to Warlord always feels like an extended sprint, but it was worth every moment. We have many new and excited members who have joined us from Sherwood and the newcomer’s academy is doing a phenomenal job introducing them to all the SCA has to offer. Our very own John and Vittoria stepped up as the first Bryn Gwlad royals in decades. Gotz and Feodor claimed the titles of King’s and Queen’s champion. Golden weapons of all kinds have been passing hands between our thrown weapons members. And Bryn Gwlad has been active and leading in running events in and out of our lands from one end of the kingdom to another. I hope everyone can take a breath and look back at everything we have accomplished together. Even if you can only participate online or attend a few populace meetings, you are part of what makes our Barony strong and enable us to thrive.
There is still plenty going on over the summer, but traditionally this is a period of recovery and preparation for the fall event season. Keep an eye out for armor workshops, war company tabard making days, sewing classes, and opportunities of all kinds. A running joke says that it’s not a real SCA project until you’ve put your blood sweat and tears into it and we can guarantee the sweat will be available under our bright Ansteorran sun.
Summer also brings us to a time of transition as Bryn Gwlad continues our known world improvement program. We wish Judita, Anne, and Cornelia all the best as they move on to An Tir, The Outlands, and Atlantia respectively. We hope you can bring some Ansteorran greatness to each of your new homes and ask everyone to keep in touch.
A special thank you to all who helped make our Steppe Warlord encampment so successful and for joining us for Halberd Court Dinner(™ pending) in the hall. Everyone being so willing to pitch in makes a huge difference and really makes running encampments a joy.
Hope to see many of you at the Bardshal summer revel, the newcomer’s pickle themed tiny tourney, Hotter than Hellsgate, or any of the many opportunities available this summer. We will sweat and smile together!
