Round Table May 2022 – Looking for Tech Lead!

Greeting Ansteorra from your Kingdom Webminister – kolfinna inn kyrra Ottarsdottir!

We are about 6 weeks away from the next offering of the Ansteorra Round Table event! We had a very successful event this past January in which we used Google Meetings and a new mechanism for organizing and executing the event. We plan to do the same this May, and I am looking for a volunteer!

What we need:

One person to volunteer as the Tech Lead for the May 2022 Round Table.

This is a new method of running the event wherein we will have the event run by two individuals — a Tech Lead supported by Kingdom Webminister and a Class Coordinator supported by the Kingdom Seneschal. This event will be entirely virtual and does not need to be hosted or bid upon by individual groups within Ansteorra.

What does the Tech Lead job entail?

The Round Table Tech Lead will be a temporary deputy of the Kingdom Webminister until the conclusion of the May 2022 Round Table event.

Primary responsibilities include

We already have a detailed Operating Procedures document that will help guide both the Tech Lead and Class Coordinator. Plus! For the May 2022 Round Table, much of the technical prep and setup has already been done by me, so your primary responsibility for this Round Table will be to ensure the schedule, links, and website remain up-to-date going forward, and provide day-of support.

You will have the full support of me as Kingdom Webminister!

Are you interested in this job?

Please use this form to volunteer for the Round Table Tech Lead position for the May 2022 Round Table.

The Axeman Rapier Tournament format, developed by the Canton of Skorragarðr current Champion, Lady Angelina ( Angela Katherine Sanders), has incorporated the event theme into a challenging and fun tournament. The tournament format is as follows:

1. Land of Fog and Mist: Two opponents fight double daggers on a platform (boat). Tip cuts are allowed.

2. The Land of Fire: Two opponents take the field, bring your best. A rope will represent lava that will get smaller and smaller the longer the fight lasts.

3. Asgard: One opponent (bring your best) must fight off 3 opponents (single sword) who will represent The Gods.

4. Midgard: Two opponents “joust” using rubber balls as horses with single sword.

5. Home of Giants: Two opponents might fight from the ground, sword and buckler. The Champion will play the giant who will attempt to kill the little people on the ground. If the giant kills a human, no points are awarded that round. If a human kills the giant and their opponent 2 points will be awarded that round.

6. Home of Vanir: Two opponents fight single sword, each opponent must keep their hand on a giant boulder (ball). They cannot attack if they lose control of the ball.

7. Home of Elves: Two opponents fight sword and cloak.

8. Home of Dwarves: Two opponents face off. Fight single dagger and may use small hand buckler no more than 6” in diameter.

9. Helhiem: Two opponents face off, bring your best. Every 20 seconds, another opponent will take the field.

The event will be held Nov. 3 to 5 at Camp Fire Heart of Oklahoma Camp Dakani at 3309 E. Hefner Rd., Oklahoma City, 73131. For more information, visit http://www.ansteorra.org/events.php

The Monthly Roundup: August, 2017 (a quick summary of the calendar listed events)

Starting off the month, the end of July and the first weeks of August will see this year’s Pennsic wars take place. From July 28 to Aug. 13, the single largest event in the SCA will be held at Slippery Rock, Penn., and includes melees and tournaments for rapier and heavy fighters, as well as merchants, artisans and performers.  The Pennsic site shows as 17 hours road time from Oklahoma City.

On the following weekend, Aug.19  Steppes Artisan will be a Saturday only event and is a major A&S event for the barony. Held at the First United Methodist Church of Cedar Hills, the site is approximately half an hour south of Dallas/Fort Worth. This is a “body of work” competition open to any level artisan. Artisans should include in their displays evidence of growth as an artisan and researcher. Competitors are encouraged to be ready to speak to judges and Their Excellencies throughout the day. This is a day event with no camping, and site registration is $15 for adults and $5 for children.

On Aug. 26, the kingdom will host yet another artistic adventure with Glaslyn’s Artisan of the Flame. The day event is held in Denton, Texas, about half an hour north of Dallas/Fort Worth and two and a half hours south from Oklahoma City. This is a championship A&S competition for the group, and documentation is required for all entrants. Site registration is $15 for adults and $5 for children.

More information about each of these events can be found on the kingdom calendar, including links to maps, contact information for the stewards, and more detailed breakdown of site registrations, family maximums, and details about membership discounts. Visit http://www.ansteorra.org.
