It’s the year 1594 and Elizabeth I, Regina Gloriana, the Virgin Queen, is in the final decade of her long rule. While the defeat of the Spanish Armada has brought new wealth and power to England, troubles at home and abroad continue to trouble this mighty ruler. In search of respite, and in hopes of brokering a peace across Europe, she has decided to host a great Candle Mass and invite allies and friends from courts across the Known World to join her in the Welsh countryside. She has promised dancing, revels, displays of prowess, artisans of great renown, and a feast that would make her late father, Henry VIII, jealous.
