Incoming Rapier / Cut and Thrust Combat Marshal: This office is currently open for applications

Email: rapier@bjornsborg.ansteorra.org

Welcome to all who are interested in Rapier and/or Cut and Thrust combat!

The Rapier / Cut and Thrust Combat Marshal is in charge of overseeing the groups’ pre-17th century steel sword fighting (blunted) by ensuring practices and tournaments follow the Society for Creative Anachronisms’ policies.

These are unscripted historical martial arts practiced by our organization. Combatants are expected to use safe (non-excessive) attack calibration, which will be taught & enforced by the Marshal at local practices & events.

Fighter practice locations and times can be found under the Local Activities.

Below is a table demonstrating the two styles of combat, and providing a brief outline of equipment requirements:

*The full list of rules, requirements, and term definitions can be found in the Rapier Marshal’s Handbook (2020).

In order to participate, you will need to bring closed toe shoes, long pants, a long-sleeved shirt, and an athletic cup if applicable. Our Barony has the remaining loaner equipment available at most practices to help you as you begin learning to fence. When you are ready to begin acquiring your own gear, we can point you in the right direction of supplies and resources for building your own rapier kit!

The rules, equipment standards, and etiquette can be found within the Rapier Marshal’s Handbook (2020). These will also be taught to you at your first few practices, so there is no need to memorize them all!

If you have any questions or need assistance with anything related to Rapier combat, please do not hesitate to contact me via rapier@bjornsborg.ansteorra.org
