Merchants:

Want to be a merchant at our event? Sell your wares at the Celebration of Bears! We have space up where the action is and electricity should you need it (bring your own extension cord(s)). Merchants will need to be out of the Merchant area on Saturday night due to an adjustment in the use of the site this year.

Contact our Merchant Coordinator, Enda Ui Donncha, via Facebook Messager (@ Robert Dunphy) or at (210) 422-0188. Fill him in on all your detail.

Camping:

There is no need to reserve a space, but the camping area is on a first come/ first choice basis. Due to a change in how the venue was secured, there will be NO camping in the upper area where most activities will be happening on Saturday. Camping will be available in the “lower” area in the vicinity of the smaller pavilion with campers having parking nearby.

There is a bathroom with flushing toilets just up the hill from where the camping area is. You will need to bring your own extension cord for any electrical needs you may have. The electrical outlets are located in the small pavilion, depending how far you camp away from the pavilion, will determine how long of a cord you will need. Do not be surprised if people are gathering in the pavilion late at night, if you prefer quieter camping, may we suggest you distance your set up from the pavilion.

Animals:
-Well-behaved leashed pets with proper vaccinations and Service Animals welcome
-Site is wet in period containers

Chivalric Championship

Chivalric Championship format to be announced

Archery Championship

Archery Championship format to be announced

Skaldic Championship:

The Skaldic championship will be hosted during the event wide lunch break at their Excellencies’ discretion. Lunch is from 12noon to 2, so sometime after they have had a bite to eat. For clarification, their Ursine Excellencies chose the term Skald for anyone who is a performer, not exclusively for those who offer Norse type performances, thus the term Skaldic Champion. Audience members are welcome to enjoy their lunch during the competition and are asked to show courtesy to the competitors and any other performers by being mindful of not holding conversations while someone is performing, it can be a distraction to everyone else.

The criteria for the Skaldic Championship will be:

Each person seeking to enter the championship will need to be prepared to enter 3 rounds.

  • Round 1: Showcase your alliteration skills.  This round may be any sort of vocal performance that is in an alliterative style (Alliteration is where the first sound of a word is repeated multiple times – See the first two lines above).
  • Round 2: Fantastical Stories.  Tell your best fantastical story or tall tale.  Keep the subject matter to something period or SCA specific.  This can be about a person (or group of people), a place, or an event.
  • Round 3: Praise Piece.  The subject of this final round will be praise of another person (or group of people).  This round may be any style of performance: vocal, instrumental, expressive, or something else, so long as it is a positive representation of someone(s) else.

Their Ursine Excellencies will choose their newest skald from the entrants based on their preference for whom they believe will best represent the Barony of Bjornsborg.

Arts & Sciences Activities:

To allow the event to have something for those not inclined towards the competitions, a “guild hall” will be set up for artisans to work directly with peers on their craft or show off their craft in general. More details pending
